Did McDonald’s do the right thing?

McDonald’s struggled to find people to work for them so they come up with a drastic solution of increasing the minimum wage to $15 – $17 per hour. THIS IS GOOD! I’m honestly impressed with this decision they made even if this only applies to corporate stores which are 5% of the total stores here in America. Am I mad about it? The answer is a hard NO. I have my reasons and opinions so I’m putting it out there so people can understand how good this is.

I have never think like this… like an adult, like a citizen who cares for people. But as I grow up, I learned so many things about life. Try watching documentaries by well-known historians and you’ll understand why this topic is important. The average minimum wage in America is $7.25 (if I’m not mistaken), and it hasn’t changed for a very long time. Of course, they got the average from adding all the minimum wage per state because each state is different. I live in IL and the minimum wage here is $11. It is NOT a livable wage though!

So, McDonald’s increasing their minimum wage is a game-changer. It means that if they can do it, so as all the companies all around the country. They are starting to make a difference. Do you know what bothers me the most? People who graduated with degrees, who are healthcare providers, engineers, or those who have certificates who are in debt because they owe so much money when they were in college. Honey, don’t slap your certificates to these people! Don’t tell them “THEY DON’T DESERVE THAT PAY!” or “Finally, they can get my orders right!”. If you do this, you’re a fu—g as-hole! Like seriously. Instead of beating them up, why not ask for a pay raise or do what McDonald’s workers did, STRIKE! I know it’s not that easy but if you think you deserve more than what you’re getting paid for, then do what is necessary. But for the love of God, please don’t take this to these employees who worked so hard to get where they are. They deserve that raise like everyone else!

I work in retail and take home about $900 every paycheck. That’s just to pay our rent for the month! And take note, apartment fees increase EVERY YEAR! We started at $850 and now $900. Isn’t it funny that they have an annual increase without reviewing how much you’re making every year so they can humanely increase your monthly rental fees and I do not? If I live by myself, how on earth can I even afford to own a car with that paycheck?

McDonald’s is not just for students. Some people work there because they have no other choice! Most companies nowadays don’t even accept job seekers who never went to high school and most of the time, only company that gives them an opportunity to make a living is, who else, McDonald’s, restaurants, retail stores. And you know what, let’s say it’s for students. They are working there so that they can have enough money to go to college! ugh! I should stop watching TikTok videos.

Archways to Opportunity

Anyways, I’m calming down now. We all need to work together to bring the average minimum wage to a livable minimum wage so we don’t live from paycheck to paycheck. This does not only apply in America, this applies to the whole world, most especially the Philippines where I came from. Stop making the rich even richer and the poor even poorer.
